Chico

Visited Chico, California yesterday.  Ate some tasty Babaganoush,  a hazelnut latte, and of course, In-n-Out.  (One TwoxTwo, and one ThreexThree.  If you are not familiar with In-n-Out, a 2x2 is two burgers in a patty, and 3x3 three burgers in a bun.  I think you can get up to 5x5!)  We also went to the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company and had a half pint of bitter beer.  It was supposed to have a biscuit like character, so I had to try it.  Oh yeah, there were flowers blooming and plants sprouting.  Back up in Squaw Valley now, with wet snow coming down, and work off because the Funitel didn't open.

A Place to Call My Own

I just got off work early today, it is snowing and windy, and I am moving into a house. The hostel is a tough situation, with kids making noise or peeing on the floor, and not to mention the ever present sniffles.  I am looking forward to a day off work tomorrow, having some chill time, and getting into music.  We may be in for a week of snowy weather up here in Tahoe, so keep sliding towards spring.

Oh yeah, Its All Good

SO, it turns out I am living in 1 of the top 25 ski towns in the world.  Truckee, California is on the list along with Chamonix France, and Taos NM.

Sunny Ski Smile

Today is my only day to have fun, so I am checking out the local Tahoe cross country ski areas.  I am off to Tahoe Donner X-C Ski Area; with fresh snow from a few days ago, sun in abundance, and skiis on loan from the Squaw Valley Nordic Yurt, I am stoked!

Ski on anything

Please watch this ski video.  It has a somber feeling to it,  but it will pump you up.

And now I am going to the Village at Squaw for Snow Fest.  I just saw out my hostel window a torchlight parade and a firework display.  One love.

Sorry Folks, I Was Busy

I have been working, partying, and skiing.  Also, learning portugese, Cuau e seu nome?(what is your name) and Tudo bem?(how are you) Oi and Obregado (hello, thank you)    I skied Alpine Meadows today, deep in powder.  Yestersay at Squaw I ran into Corey Lily and his older brother Bob.  They are from WV and started a company skiertrash.com selling clothing and swag.  Also, I skied with Matt the windmill guy. Last, I met someone who skis in NY at a private area called Hollymont, but he knows Deryl Hensley, the tele man at Timberline, WV.  It is a small world friends.

The 2012 The Great Ski Race® is cancelled due to lack of snow!

For only the second time in 36 years, the Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue (TNSAR) Team is cancelling the race for 2012. We are an industrious bunch of winter enthusiasts, but even the most optimistic person can't combat a petulant winter. It's not just that there there isn't enough snow...it's that there isn't any snow on long portions of the race course. After considering alternate plans - and when there is this little snow there are very few alternate plans - TNSAR decided to avoid putting on a race this year that would not match the expectations and level of quality that everyone has come to expect.
Suffice to say...we will be back in 2013 and look forward to the largest turnout yet!

Don't feel bad, there is still enough snow for a guy like JOMO. He's been steeped in a tradition that allows him to shred it up on a thimble full of snow and a little Whitegrass.com
