Things we saw driving East from Oregon...
The Three Sisters.
Somewhere in the middle of Idaho we camped at a small lake that was apparently drying up. We drove down to the boat ramp, which did not touch the waters edge, but instead steered you onto a dry and flat field that used to be under water. The lake was being fed by a small creek that cut through muck that would eat your shoes if you stepped in it. As a matter of fact, Noah did lose his shoes to the mud. On three sides of us mountains stood close, a majestic view into the Pioneer Range I believe. Looking South your eyes would see far into the flat but uneven volcanic lands. Upon steeping out of the car, someone noticed shards of obsidian, small pieces that had obviously been knapped. We think this was a place Native Americans came to teach the children to knap spear points and knives, as there was not obsidian naturally in that area. I found a very round stone with chips in it, maybe a striker stone. Then our Swedish friend stumbled upon a perfect arrowhead made of the glassy looking black obsidian. We even found flakes of agate and a different colorful stone that had been worked on. At the lake were two large Great Blue Herons, pelicans, and sea gulls. We had found another awesome place to camp.
I got to skate in Billings Montana today.
This is Fire Hole River in Yellowstone, which we camped by. Hoping to fish the Snake River tomorrow.
